Letters from my Father: Lessons I've Learned

Introduction

My father died on May 9, 2012 at 79 years of age, having lived a full life. Maybe he could have lived longer with a better diet, more exercise, more money, and less stress - those factors may have given him a boost and added a few more years onto his life. But I will never know the answer to that question. What if circumstances were different? Would that have changed anything?

Performance Review: SlideAttack

hl6

Slide Attack is a seasoned collection of five fantastic musicians fluent in the language of swing, blues, modern jazz and a wide spectrum of genres. Boldly led by two lead trombonists, Alan Goidel and Howard Levy, the band fills the room with the brassy harmonies of well-chosen jazz arrangements, both old and new. At the 9th Note Jazz Supper Club in Stamford, Connecticut on August 3, 2016, this group gave the audience a sufficient helping of each instrument that also included Paul Mariconda - piano, Chuck Zeuren - drums, and Dr. Lyn Christe - bass.

Embarking on St. John, Virgin Islands

In mid-August of 2015, Kerryl and I made the leap to work and live in St. John, Virgin Islands. Around Christmas, both of us had cabin fever, suffered from lack of exercise, were sunlight deprived and, having become so batty, were singing, dancing and (fighting) to a Hawaiian Christmas song, "Mele Kalikimaka," at home and on Emden Pond, a nearby lake.

"It's amazing how scenic and wild the Warwick section of the Appalachian Trail is," says Gene Giordano, AT Community Leader. "There are relatively flat sections that families can enjoy and rough-and-tumble sections that will satisfy the more serious hiker."

Printed in an edition of 20, Vitruvian's Daughter is a combination woodcut, linocut and pochoir which has been hand printed in the Shore Publishing printshop in Tuxedo, NY.

Artist William Villalongo created the print based on imagery from a recent series of paintings he made in his Brooklyn studio. "My work is fiction. I've been exploring how color and geometry can become metaphors for an expansive interiority and the historical relationship of the termiology of color to the representation of the black figure," he says.
